The 7th annual lucero memorial 5k run/walk

Sunday, September 28, 2008 | 10:30 am - 2:30 pm

Race and Cookout at MSPP, West Roxbury, MA

Please plan to join us for a celebration of life with the many communities of MSPP. For students, alumnae/i, faculty, trustees, staff, families and friends

This run/walk was created to memorialize Dr. Cynthia Lucero, MSPP alumna, who collapsed from hyponatremia while running the 2002 Boston Marathon, just twelve days before her twenty-eighth birthday. She devoted her life to helping others through her work and community service. We continue Cynthia’s legacy through the Lucero Center’s Latino Mental Health Training Program, training linguistically and culturally competent clinicians.

In the U.S., approximately one in eight individuals is Latino. It is estimated that this number will grow to one-fifth of the population by 2010. Latino psychologists comprise less than 2% of the nation’s psychologists. The need for professionals who can competently treat mental health problems within this population is critical and will become more severe, over the next five years.
