Latino Mental Health Professional Networking Evening
On Thursday April 2, 2009 MSPP hosted a Latino Mental Health Professional Networking Event. Approximately 50 people including many students came together to enjoy authentic Mexican food and network. Four students in the Cynthia Lucero Latino Mental Health Training Program, Jamie Siegel, Darleen Gracia, Laura Horn and Zack Blumkin talked about their experiences in the program and participants shared information about their organizations, the work they are doing and issues in the field. Much of the conversation was in Spanish and a particularly poignant element of the night was hearing from “club members” of Casa Primavera in Roxbury, a day treatment program for Latinos with mental illness who shared their personal stories giving the group an unexpected “client” perspective on services for Latinos in the community.
Other organization represented that night were:
Center for Multicultural Mental Health
Brookside Community Health Center
Boston Medical Center Child Witness to Violence Project
Latin American Health Institute
Brigham and Women’s Hospital
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
