Thank you for considering the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP) programs. Applicants are considered on their overall potential for successful performance in graduate level coursework as well as the potential “fit” with our programs and fields of study.

In the links below you will find application information to the MA in Forensic & Counseling Psychology program. Transcripts and official test scores should be sent to the MSPP Admissions Office to arrive on or before the set deadline. All other materials must be supplied electronically through your online application account.

Pre-Requisites

Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.

Pre-Requisite Courses
Basic coursework or work with volunteer experience in psychology or education.

Academic achievement at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels (Although there is no cut-off GPA requirement, 3.0 (of 4.0) is expected).

Times and Deadlines for 2010/2011 Admission

Application Deadlines
for Early Consideration: Wednesday, December 2, 2009.
for General Consideration: Wednesday, January 13, 2010.
for Late Consideration: Rolling admission on a space available (first-come processing) basis. We will stop considering applications once the program reaches capacity on or before Friday, July 16, 2010.
Admission for 2010 is closed.

Interviews
for Early Consideration: Friday, January 22, 2010.
for General Consideration: Saturday, March 6. 2010.

Applying Concurrently to the Forensic & Counseling Psychology Program and other MSPP Programs

The Forensic & Counseling Psychology Program, the PsyD Program in Clinical Psychology, the Counseling Psychology, and the School Psychology Program involve different graduate experiences, specializations, and career trajectories. It is possible, however, that your interests align with more than one program.

If applying to more than one program, the Forensic Psychology Program application and the other application(s) should be submitted by their respective deadlines. The application review process for each program is separate, including the interview.

Please take note of the following when applying to more than one program:

• The application fee if applying to more than one program is $75.
• In each of your essays, (Autobiographical Statement, Statement of Purpose and Goals, and if applicable Change of Career), please address your interest in the program to which you applying and how they overlap.

If you are offered and accept admission to another MSPP program, your Forensic Psychology Program application will be considered withdrawn. Similarly, if you accept the offer of admission to the Forensic Psychology Program, your application to any other MSPP program is withdrawn.

Selection of Candidates

Completed application packets are thoroughly reviewed by members of the MSPP faculty. Qualified applicants may be invited for an interview. Applicants who are not in our general geographic area may opt to schedule a telephone interview. Each component of the application is an important part of the process. Although cutoff scores are not strictly applied, an undergraduate and/or graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher is expected. Applicants are welcome to submit GRE scores in order to present another indication of their strengths and abilities although the GRE is not required. Applicants who are non-native speakers of English may be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to provide evidence of their level of English as it is spoken and written in North America. TOEFL combined scores (listening, structure and written expression, speaking and reading) will ideally be over 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer based) or 92 (internet based).
