MSPP Field Placement & JOB Training
The coordination of the academic classroom experience and field placement is the foundation for the cohesive and comprehensive educational program at MSPP. The academic emphasis on professional practice, ongoing field application of didactic material and seminars designed to integrate classroom and field placement experience all contribute to this purpose. Field placement sites, selected and developed by the Field Placement staff, are compatible with the educational objectives of the School. Each student’s field placement combines theory and practice, and maximizes the student's professional development.
Some of the most exciting and enriching learning opportunities take place in MSPP's field placement program. With over 200 sites to choose from across the MSPP training programs, students receive training in a broad array of contexts in which professional psychologists practice. Our integrated model includes an internship experience in the immediate or surrounding area that is consistent with the student's training goals and objectives.
Among the variety of field placement settings are: state and private hospitals (including units that specialize in behavioral medicine); mental health agencies; community health centers; schools; college counseling centers; trauma centers; forensic units; geriatric settings; and business organizations.
Students participate in a full range of professional activities at these sites, consistent with the individual student's level of development and learning goals. Under appropriate supervision, students conduct intake evaluations, psychological assessment and testing, individual, group, couple, and family psychotherapy, consultation, and education. While the majority of the field placements emphasize clinical psychology practice, MSPP also develops innovative sites that provide training for new roles and areas of interest for psychologists.
The MSPP Field Placement Office staff, the computerized Field Site Directory, and the faculty advisor are all key resources to help students in their acquisition of practica and internships. The Directors of Training develop new sites, monitor and assess the field placement program, and help students in all phases of the field placement process.
