PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA: THE INDIVIDUAL AND SOCIETY
(2 credits)
This course provides an overview of theory, research, and clinical practice in the psychology of trauma. The course has four objectives: (1) to provide a general knowledge of the psychological sequalae of exposure to trauma, (2) to familiarize students with the contributions of theory and empirical research to our understanding of trauma and post-traumatic responses, (3) to introduce the students to the clinical assessment and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder and (4) to enhance the student’s ability to think critically, particularly with regard to concepts and issues in the field of psychological trauma.
