Primary Care Program

Master of Arts in Counseling & Health Psychology Program (MA)

This new 2012 program is specifically designed to prepare the next generation of mental health professionals to work in the Patient Centered Medical Home. Increasingly, public and private health settings are integrating mental health professionals into multi-disciplinary teams in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Women’s Health and other specialties. This new medical model calls for the mental health professional to be a key member of a team, ready to conduct brief assessments, consult with colleagues from other health care disciplines and to treat patients and families in both brief and extended models of care. This new paradigm, supported by organized medicine and the new federal model for health care delivery, requires a special training and preparation. This program will develop skilled, competent mental health professionals who are prepared for rewarding careers in the Patient Centered Medical Home. Graduates will qualify to become Licensed Mental Health Counselors
