Part Time Program

Forensic & Counseling Psychology (MA) Program - Part Time option

Standard (Three-Year) Sequence

The maximum amount of time to complete this program is three years.

The following course sequence distributes 60 semester credit hours over eight consecutive semesters (three years, including two summers) of part-time study. The first year consists exclusively of classroom work.

Field training begins in the second year and continues through the third. The capstone project is completed in the third year, after all core courses and electives have been taken.

Students seeking to pursue a part-time option should meet with the Program Director to plan their course sequence. Please note that this is only a sample and the course sequence can be adjusted according to student and program needs and requirements.

First Year: Fall Semester
Theories & Techniques of Counseling & Psychotherapy (3 credits)
Professional Issues & Ethics (3 credits)
Lifespan Development (3 credits) or Diversity & Cross Cultural Psychology (3 credits)

First Year: Spring Semester
Adult Psychopathology (3 credits)
Psychology and the Legal System (3 credits)
Substance Abuse Evaluation and Treatment (3 credits)

First Year: Summer Semester
Group Psychotherapy (3 credits)

Total Hours First Year: 21

Second Year: Fall Semester
Behavioral Criminology (3 credits)
Lifespan Development (3 credits) or Diversity & Cross Cultural Psychology (3 credits)
Practicum I (2 credits)
Practicum Seminar I: Helping Relationships I (2 credits)

Second Year: Spring Semester
Practicum II (2 credits)
Practicum Seminar II: Helping Relationships II (2 credits)
Research Methods in Psychology (3 credits)
Psychological Assessment & Appraisal (3 credits)

Second Year: Summer Semester (optional)
Career Development and Counseling (3 credits) – recommended for those pursuing LMHC or LPC outside of Massachusetts

Total Hours Second Year: 20 (+3 optional over the required 60)

Third Year: Fall Semester
Forensic Internship I (3 credits)
Forensic Internship Seminar I (2 credits)
Consultation and Testimony in Forensic Psychology (3 credits)

Third Year: Spring Semester
Forensic Internship II (3 credits)
Forensic Internship Seminar II (2 credits)
Sex Offender Evaluation and Treatment (3 credits)
Forensic Capstone Project Seminar (3 credits)
