Description: This program will introduce students to the core concepts of Relational-Cultural Theory. We will begin with an examination of the shortcoming of separate self psychologies and how a paradigm shift to relational psychology changes everything. Participants will explore how isolation created enormous human suffering. We will also learn how an approach characterized by mutual empathy and therapeutic authenticity brings people back into connection and growth. Working with relational paradox, participants will explore how to help clients move back into mutually empathic relationships. The neuroscientific underpinning for this approach will also be examined. Presentation of concepts, discussions of cases, videos and some experiential exercises will help deepen an understanding of this model.
