Dr. Sara Orozco was hired in May 2009 as a full-time core faculty member of the Counseling Psychology Program. Dr. Orozco is a clinical psychologist specializing in individual, couples, and family therapy with diverse client populations. Her areas of interest include anxiety and mood disorders, grief and loss, adjustment disorders, medical and health concerns, and relationship issues. She uses various therapeutic approaches including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral therapies and mind/body techniques.

Dr. Orozco earned a PhD in psychology with a specialty in neuroscience at Georgia State University. She completed a clinical post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Neuropharmacology at The Scripps Research Institute. Dr. Orozco also completed a clinical re-specialization program at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. She has trained and worked in a number of clinical settings including at McLean Hospital, the Mind/Body Institute at Harvard Medical School, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Children’s Charter, Inc., the Families and Couples Clinic at The Brookline Mental Health Center and at the Wellness Community in Newton. She is a former faculty member of the Harvard Medical School.

In 2008, Dr. Orozco ran an ambitious campaign as a first-time Democratic candidate for the Massachusetts State Senate, winning 41 percent of the vote. She is involved in numerous civic organizations and maintains an active interest in policy advocacy. Dr. Orozco has a private practice in Needham, MA, and is bilingual-bicultural, Spanish proficient.
